Artist Statement
Currently working towards a BFA, Studio Arts Degree at MacEwan University. My goal is to work in Arts Education, inspiring others to make joy from junk.
I believe accessibility to art is important for community and personal development.. The privilege of attending a world class University, learning about Fine Arts is not lost on me, but has placed an importance on researching local, marginalized artists that have physically forced a smile of laughter from my being when possible. Accessibility and representation is vital to ensure that hardworking minority communities are truly in need of inspiration to find ways to navigate struggles on a path to living life in a good way, and earning a recognition that they are worth the effort.
Growing up in an oil-prioritized Industrial Environment like Alberta can give artistic people the impression that creating art is not a viable option to sustain life, this is a misconception that I intend to break down. Life in Treaty Eight Territory in a small town called High Level, way up north in the 80s has given me the impression that pulling oil was our only option to sustain ourselves. Knowing at a young age that I was uninterested in following those particular family footsteps.
